10 Things We Like - a blog game

Well this was a no-brainer, eh? We LOVE classic films because they are refreshing and honest. They make us suspend our belief in order to be truly entertained by superior acting, singing, dancing, and glorious Technicolor (and beautiful black and white). Our passion for classic films is pretty evident in our podcasts, so let’s carry on to the other “likes” we share.
2). Being Together
One of the most difficult aspects in creating 'The Scarlett Olive' lies on the 1500 mile/2400 kilometer chasm between the two of us. Planning, recording, editing takes place completely through the computer and text messaging - as you can imagine, this creates a disadvantage. Aside from being co-hosts and avid film buffs, we are very close friends who share every aspect of our lives with each other. It is, oftentimes, painful being distanced by our geographical locations and we leap at every opportunity to fly to the others' respective country for a prolonged visit. Being together is a vital part in our friendship and, hopefully, one day the map will fold and our distance woes will find a place on the shelves of our memories.Liz Lemon is an admirable role model for these two young women. She’s a single forty-something living in New York and head of a writing team for a variety show on NBC. She eats emotionally, is proud of her nerdiness, replaces swear words for geeky euphemisms, and doesn’t really care what she looks like. Liz puts comfort over looks and isn’t afraid of standing out that way in the visual-crazed world she makes a living from. Quite often, Liz feels like the only normal person in her world of weirdos, but just the same, she is just as strange to everyone else. We feel we connect with Liz on that level. Oh, another awesome thing about Liz Lemon? She’s left-handed! No, that’s not it. She works with her best friend!
6). Paul McCartney

Basically, without technology, you wouldn’t be reading this. You wouldn’t be sitting here with the laptop warm on your legs. You wouldn’t have met all of those people from the other side of the world on that message board or Facebook group. You wouldn’t be able to text your new buddy on the other side of the country or continent to say, “Hey, what’s up?” There would be no cell phones, television, movies, recorded music, or even the culture we have without technology. Classic movies, Hyperbole and a Half, and Liz Lemon would never be on our minds because they would never exist. Technology is still rapidly changing our world and will continue to do so for many generations to come. The most tragic thing is there would be no Scarlett Olive without this invisible wonder. We salute you, technology.
8). Reading and Writing

If you've read our actual blog, we both enjoy creative writing of the fiction and non-fiction variety. With most aspiring writers, you will find they tap their inspiration from particular authors ... meaning, we both enjoy reading. Autobiographies, biographies, and the Classics (in case you haven't noticed, we like "classic" anything) on any given day can be found on our bedside tables or firmly planted against our noses. Usually Hilary reads whatever Katie is reading, because she can't be bothered to choose for herself - luckily, Katie has impeccable taste.
Tea / hot tea, iced tea, sweet tea. There are innumerable amounts of tea in the world. From English Tea to Ice Wine Tea to Chocolaty Chai, tea is healthy (in its green and white varieties) and drunk in enormous amounts by the Scarlett Olive. Every culture has its own customs and traditions surrounding tea and its use. Before being used as a comfort drink, tribes in China used tea leaves for medicinal purposes. A favoured type of tea, Chai, was created in India by blending cardamom seeds, fennel, sugar, and milk. In Korea, people will sip raw egg between cups of tea. Then there is the issue of iced tea / sweet tea. In America, different regions have different versions of iced tea. In my experience, the more south you go, the better and sweeter the iced tea (that’s what Canadians call it). Thanks to uptontea.com for the facts.
10). Christmas Lights

Possibly the greatest discovery of our likes .. no, LOVES is Christmas lights. We love the nostalgic glow of colored bulbs beckoning fond memories of chestnuts on an open fire and presents encircling the tree. They mark the homes of those who also enjoy festive, holiday cheer and bring forth awe and wonderment with a different form of creativity. If we enjoy Christmas and Christmas lights this much, can you, our audience, imagine what our Christmas Special will be like? Gear up!
